Last semester, the Pittsburgh Center for Sports Media and Marketing hosted three panel discussions with industry professionals for students to gain an insight into the lives of real-world executives. The first was IMG: The Global Leader in Sports and Entertainment Representation and Branding. Together with Chris Ciaccio—IMG’s VP of Marketing—and Elliott Falcione—Manatee County CVB Executive Director, the two men opened up to students about the newly established IMG Academy located in Bradenton, FL.
What is the IMG Academy, you may ask?
The IMG Academy is a place for athletes. A place where athletes young and old can seek instruction in programs such as tennis, golf, basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, football, and athletic and personal development. With private school, youth camps, adult programs, team training, and pro/college training, the IMG Academy is the perfect place to gain athletic advancement, all the while training with some of the industry's top coaches.

Because of this informative panel discussion, a few Advisory Board members were given the opportunity to spend a weekend down in Bradenton, FL to tour the IMG Academy, as well as gain hands-on event management experience working at the Bradenton Regatta.
For the people of Manatee County, FL, this family-friendly festival was created all because of Bradenton’s ties with our city, Pittsburgh, PA. The “world famous” Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta is the country’s largest inland regatta and top venue on the powerboat racing circuit. Naturally, a place like Bradenton would be perfect to have one, too.
The inaugural Bradenton Area Riverwalk Regatta is scheduled for this Saturday, February 7th. All day long, there will be numerous fun-filled events for people of all ages like: Hydro-cross jet ski, Extreme pogo shows, BMX stunt performers, Food Festival, Kids Zone, Frisbee® dogs, Falcon 5K River Run & 1-Mile Fun Run. Concerts will also being going on throughout the day, with Jefferson Starship headlining as a part of their 40th Anniversary Tour. To cap off the night will be, of course, a Zambelli International Fireworks show.
So, on Thursday morning, I—along with four other colleagues—will be travelling down to Florida for the weekend. This is all thanks to the Pittsburgh Center for Sports Media and Marketing. Because of the Center’s panels, workshops, and seminars, I have been given the chance of a lifetime: to explore IMG Academy and staff the very first Bradenton Regatta.
