Exciting news in the football world as FIFA as extended its contract with Fox Sports through 2026!
Fox Sports added this coverage to its already existing agreement for the Men's 2018 and 2022 World Cup events. The sports network first bought the rights in 2011, outbidding previous owner, ESPN. The costs was $425 million for two cycles. Now with this extension Fox Sports will hosts both the men and women's FIFA World Cup through 2026.
The next FIFA World Cup will be the Women's World Cup in June 2015. While the Men's 2018 World Cup will be held in Russia and 2022 in Qatar, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has yet to decide on a location. Currently the America's have confirmed bids in Canada, Mexico and Colombia with Kazakhstan, Morocco and the United States being possible bidders.
Who knows maybe we will luck out and get to see the World Cup in our home field!
FIFA is pushing for further promotion of football in North America especially with the increased interest show by audiences in North America during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Personally, I love the increased interest and push for more football in North America, especially in the states. When you actually attend a football game, the atmosphere is as intoxicating as a Penguins game and at times even more so. Throw on a Premier League game and you can hear the roar of the crowd and how it never stops. That type of atmosphere draws both the football and non-football fans in. The most unique thing about football is how it draws in all of the countries together, it is a sport that truly unites the world.
