As of right now, The Pittsburgh Steelers are making Landry Jones their guy for the game on Sunday, October 25th. Mike Tomlin says, “He is the one who is healthy.” He has total faith in Jones’ ability.
While they warm up Jones, the team will keep an eye on Ben Roethlisberger, who suffered a sprained MCL and bruised bone, and the backup quarterback Michael Vick, who has an injury to the hamstring. There are possible rumors that Roethlisberger would be ready for the game on Sunday. He is entering into his 4th week of rehab and still has to be able to move laterally and be able to protect himself, which is a huge challenge to overcome.
If Roethlisberger doesn’t feel comfortable to come back this week, Jones is more than ready to take on this big role. At first during the preseason Jones struggled, because of his lack of standout plays this is why Tomlin went with Vick over Jones for backup quarterback, but all the doubts were gone when he relieved Vick on Sunday and passed for 168 yards, completing 12 passes with two touchdowns to lead to the Steelers’ 25-13 win over the Cardinals. He connected with Martavis Bryant for the first touchdown last Sunday, and later he threw a perfect pass to Antonio Brown. His most memorable play was when he found Bryant for a second time, which is when a pass turned into a 88-yard touchdown. Tomlin says that they will plan accordingly if Jones is in for Sunday. They are making a game plan for him so he will be 100% ready for whatever comes his way.
I believe that Jones will need to find his groove and it is going to take the first quarter for him to be able to get in tune with his players. Vick still was still having trouble connecting with the players so I feel as though this is the perfect opportunity for Jones to really shine. I am personally excited to see how Jones will do with this big start. After the first quarter, I believe that he will do just fine and lead the Steelers to a victory giving them a 5-2 record.
