Bright House Networks is not just a Florida broadcast network that does local sports they are an integral part of their community and the people they employ are way they are successful at doing so. Leah Brown is the Senior Manager of Government and Public Affairs and Alan Mason is the Corporate Vice President of Local Programming and while they are both Bright House employees their work is very different.
Many think that the only way people know about a television network is by watching whatever programming they have on their network that is their brand and that is the extent of it. Leah Brown has made sure that is not the case in the Florida area. Her position at Bright House is to make sure that is not the case by doing many projects that reach out into the community. This includes a scholarship program for local outstanding youths who are active in their community as well. The students that win these scholarships have to complete at least 50 hours of volunteer in the Tampa Bay community and maintain a 2.5 GPA. Another great way to stay involved in the community that Bright House has sponsored has a Pittsburgh tie to it. Pittsburgh annually holds the Three River Regatta over 4th of July weekend and has been a part of the Pittsburgh summer tradition for over 20 years. This past February Bradenton, FL the spring training home to the Pittsburgh Pirates got another taste of Pittsburgh culture when they hosted their first Bradenton Area Riverwalk Regatta. More than 80,000 people attended the event making it a huge success for the area. Bright House’s support in this endeavor helped the debut become a big success and hopefully something the people of Bradenton can look forward to for years to come. These two examples are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Bright House’s presence in the community and Leah Brown has played an important part in that. Beyond that work she also is a graduate of the Women in Cable Telecommunications Rising Leaders Program where she has been awarded for her excellent work in Public Affairs.
Now for Bright House to have the ability to be a presence in the community they have to have a great history of programming that helped establish their brand and Alan Mason is a major component of that area of Bright House. The Bright House network provides not just programming for sports, but news as well with Bay News 9 (BN9), Bright House Sports Network (BHSN) and News 13. These three stations are the biggest stations in the Central Florida and Tampa Bay markets and keep local viewers involved in the news for those areas. InfoMas is the Spanish-language news channel in the area as well and with a high population of Latin Americans a Spanish speaking network is absolutely critical. Mr. Mason is able to make sure these various networks operate at a high level due to his varied experiences prior to his employment at Bright House. Those include being the Vice President and General Manager of News 14 Carolina that was the 24 hour news network to some of the biggest cities in the state. He has also done sports play-by-play so he knows what he is talking about when it comes to sports. In a state like Florida where high school football is a major draw you have to know what you are doing. Not only does Bright House broadcast local sports they produce programming to enhance that experience both pre and post game to make sure that the fans are well informed and getting as much coverage as they desire.
These are only two aspects to why Bright House is such as success not just in Florida, but throughout the Southeast. They are a provider of high speed Internet, digital video and phone services to multiple states as well. The only way that a company can be this successful in so many areas is to employ the right people and Leah Brown and Alan Mason are definitely two examples of this.
