When the Pirates traded Russell Martin after the 2014 season many people thought we could never replace him. His last season with the Pirates he had a .290 batting average, 45 runs, 110 hits,
11 homeruns all in a total of 111 games. Then came the one and only Francisco Cervelli. He had a lot to live up to in Pittsburgh after Martin’s exist and he did just that.
In his 2015 season Pirates premiere , he played a total of 130 games. This is the most games he ever played as a player and even more games played than his combined total of games in the past 3 years (’12, ’13, ’14). He rocked the stats with 451 At Bats, 56 runs, 133 hits, 7 home-runs, with an overall .295 batting average.
Not only was he a force with the bat, he was a force behind home plate. He threw out about 22% of runners who made an attempt to steal a base.
With his amazing on the field talent, he combines it with a great personality. When you are watching the game from home or at the ballpark you can see his love of the game and the passion he has for it. When things are going well you can see his big smile light up the field. When things are going south you can see the drive he has to get the team more aggressive.
So far in spring training he has played 9 games, had 21 At Bats, 4 Runs, 5 hits, 1 Home Run, and has a .238 Batting Average. He is clearly ready for the 2016 Pirates season and ready to bring this team into Buctober. That’s truly Amoré.
